Now Viewing: getaTag type: General Geta (木屐/下駄) are a form of traditional Chinese footwear also adopted by Japan that resemble both clogs and flip-flops. Chinese people started wearing cloth-made shoes and stopped wearing geta at least 2,000 years ago but geta are still kept by Japanese people. They are a kind of sandals|sandal with an elevated wooden base held onto the foot with a fabric thong to keep the foot well above the ground. They are worn with traditional Chinese/Japanese clothing such as Hanfu, kimono or yukata, but (in Japan) also with Western clothing during the summer months. Sometimes geta are worn in rain or snow to keep the feet dry, due to their extra height and impermeability compared to other shoes footwear such as zouri. A type of geta with one tall sole tooth used for rapid movement over rough terrain is called tengu-geta.
