She is one of Negi's students and appears to be a relatively normal if remarkably talented girl: she is the owner of the Chao Bao Zi store, a researcher of quantum physics, and a martial artist. She is a friendly and good natured girl who cares about her classmates. During the Mahora Festival story arc, Negi discovers the truth: she is from the future, and she has come back to the past to expose the existence of magic to Earth and save the Magical World by doing so. Negi becomes deeply troubled because he sympathizes with her motives and feels responsibility towards her as her teacher, but if her plan succeeds, he and other mages will get into serious trouble with the mages who are hiding the existence of magic. The Mahora Festival arc which exposes Chao's true nature and motives has never been adapted in its entirety in anime format.
