Now Viewing: death_battleTag type: Copyright Tag refers to images and videos referencing this online comedic battleboarding series and is notably the longest-running fully animated example of the genre. It debuted on December 26, 2010 and was created by Ben Singer who also plays one of the main hosts, Wizard, and animated some of the early episodes. It is produced and hosted by the video game website Screw Attack, where it became one of the site's most popular creations. The series' episodes are also uploaded on Youtube. The series was Screw Attack's biggest success, with episodes frequently receiving millions of views, and even outlasted said site, which closed down in 2019. The show is hosted by original characters Wizard and Boomstick who pair two characters, usually characters who have some common ground or are common debate topics in vs. forums, from different franchises and pit them against each other in a battle to the death. The series aims to answer which character would win in a fight to the death as objectively as possible. To that end, the first part of each episode introduces each character before going into an analysis of their respective abilities as demonstrated in their original canons. After the analysis, an animated version of what a hypothetical fight between the two characters would look like is played, and afterwards Wizard and Boomstick announce the winner and explain their conclusions. The fights are animated in a variety of styles, depending on the characters involved and what resources the creators can gather. Animation styles include sprite animation, 3d animation, hand-drawn animation, and even live action. As the series has gone on and gained popularity, it has assembled a more consistent staff besides its hosts that include animators like Luis Cruz and Torrian Crawford and a composer in Brandon Yates, who composes original tracks for episodes that reference the episodes' combatants. The characters are also fully voice acted in English though most of the time they are played by different voice actors from their mainline series. The series has spawned two spinoffs One Minute Melee and DBX. Both works also revolve around death battles, but unlike the main series, the battles are intentionally done for fun with no research conducted and the winner being determined by the animator.
