Now Viewing: lazarusTag type: Copyright ラザロ A Sci fi action thriller anime animated by Mappa_(company) that ran from April 6, 2025 to June 29, 2025. It was created by Watanabe Shinichiro who also wrote the series alongside Satou Dai, Ozawa Takahiro, and Kondou Tsukasa, and directed it. It is a stylistic throwback to Watanabe's earlier directorial efforts that made him famous, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, and even includes two of the main seiyuu from the former in its cast in supporting roles, Yamadere_Koichi and Hayashibara_Megumi. The series was dedicated to Nobumoto Keiko who was the main writer for Bebop. The anime is a Japanese/Western collaboration. For the music, three Western musicians were hired, Kamasi Washington who composed the instrumental jazz pieces, Bonobo, and Floating Points. The anime's action choreography, which consists of parkour, hand to hand martial arts, and close quarters gunplay, was designed by Chad Stahelski, who's most well known for directing the John Wick film series, and his stunt team 87eleven Action Design, which the animators then adapted into animation. It was broadcast on both TV Tokyo and Adult Swim, which had previously exposed Western audiences to Bebop and Champloo. Watanabe's signature love of music is reflected in the series' episode titles which are all named after albums or songs. It is 2049, and the world is addicted to a miracle drug, designed by Dr. Skinner who disappeared sometime after inventing it, called Hapna. This drug can relieve its user of all pain. However, when Dr. Skinner resurfaces, he reveals to the world that there's a big catch: everyone who takes the drug will die after three years, and the deadline is arriving in 30 days. He issues a challenge to the world, find him within that time frame or face the total collapse of society and humanity. A team of agents is assembled to catch Dr. Skinner: Axel Gilberto, a daredevil escape artist, Douglas Hadine, a professional man with a background in science, Christine Blake, an upbeat gunslinger, Leland Astor, a teen boy skilled at piloting drones, and Eleina, a genius teen hacker. Together, they form Lazarus and they must work together to find Skinner before all of humanity is wiped out.
