A dystopian punk fantasy action manga created by Urana_Kei, who previously was an assistant to mangaka Ohkubo Atsushi and considered by him to be his successor. It debuted on February 16, 2022 on Weekly Shounen Magazine. It was adapted into an anime TV series by Studio Bones. The anime was directed by Suganuma Fumihiko and written by Seko Hiroshi. It was scored by Iwasaki Taku, who had previously scored the anime adaptation of Soul Eater, one of creator Urana's biggest inspirations. It follows Rudo, a teen boy who lives with his caretaker/father figure Regto, in the slums. The city they live in has an extreme divide between rich and poor and the only thing that separates them are some gates. Rudo has a fascination with the objects that the wealthy thoughtlessly discard, seeing value in them where others cannot. The city they live is situated over a massive dump site known as the Pit, which is where human criminals are dumped alongside the trash. No criminal has ever escaped from the Pit to return the surface. Unfortunately, Rudo ends up being dropped into the Pit after Regto's murdered. Rudo is considered to be the sole suspect in spite of him encountering the true culprit. Rudo survives the long fall only to discover that there has been another world underneath the city he grew up in all along. Said world is a grimy, and dirty landscape reminiscent of a giant landfill with air so putrid as to be directly harmful to one's health and giant monsters that are literally made up of trash. Rudo is taken in by Enjin, a member of The Cleaners, a group of fighters with the ability to magically weaponize objects. The Cleaners use their skills to protect the people who live under the surface from trash monsters. Enjin senses that Rudo himself also has potential when it comes to using objects and asks Rudo to join the Cleaners. Rudo works with the Cleaners to find a way to get back to the surface to avenge Regto's death, and unlock the secrets behind his powers. Although set in a fantasy setting, the series is drenched in urban punk counterculture attitude in its aesthetics, characterization, and sound. Graffiti art features prominently in the story with the graffiti work illustrated by graffiti artist Ando Hiroyuki. The series heroes', according to Urana, were designed to be decent humans, but during development, they ended up turning into freaky weirdos. The series' power system and themes are based around humans' emotional attachment to objects and the value of objects, even ones that may be discarded as trash. This concept was inspired by Urana's childhood experience when she felt a sense of loss after she accidentally broke a pen she loved. Musically, the anime's soundtrack features music associated with rebellion such as metal/rock music with the first opening theme performed by metalcore band Paledusk, the second by virtual youtuber Mori Calliope (whose Jigoku 6 album cover was illustrated by Urana), and hip hop tracks with raps performed by some of Iwasaki's frequent collaborators, such as Lotus Juice and Igor.
