It is Mikami's first serialized manga after she won the 105th Newcomer Award for her one shot manga Kurage no Uta. For her first serialized story, she aimed to create a story about kindness. It was adapted into an anime TV series by Cloverworks that ran from July 6, 2025 to September 28, 2025. It was directed by Kuroki Miyuki and Tsuzuki Haruka, written by Yamazaki Rino, and scored by Harada Moeki. It tells the story of students from two different schools that are right next to each other but couldn't be more different, Chidori Public High School and Kikyo Girls' School. The former is an all boys school populated with students with below average grades and are often perceived as being delinquents. The latter is an elite all girls private school filled with upper class, highly educated students. The students of both schools have a strong mutual distrust of each other and, although their schools are so close that the students can see into the classrooms of the other school, the division between them is enforced by the windows often being covered with curtains. Tsumugi Rintarou is a student at Chidori and seems to embody a lot of the stereotypes of the school's students. He is a tall boy with bleached blonde hair and earrings and has subpar grades. Combined with his stern default expression, he has often been perceived as a delinquent, scaring off others or inadvertently enticing wannabe tough guys to pick fights with him. Because of this, he has had no real friends outside of his immediate friend circle that consists of Usami Shouhei, Natsusawa Saku, and Yorita Ayato, and even they are unaware of his private life. In reality, Rintarou is actually a kind and sensitive boy who's always willing to lend a helping hand and works part time at his family's cake shop. His job at the shop leads him to encounter Waguri Kaoruko, a frequent customer at the shop. Kaoruko is different from everyone he's ever met in that she's the first person to not judge him by his appearance and actively reach out to him, which confuses yet touches him. The day after their first interaction, he inadvertently discovers that Kaoruko is actually a student at Kikyo and she has absolutely no problem with him being a Chidori student. To avoid controversy amongst their peers, the two of them continue to meet with each outside of school. As their budding relationship becomes increasingly less secret, they steadily inspire themselves and others to look past their school divisions and communicate openly and honestly. The manga was as acclaimed as Mikami's previous one-shot work, it was nominated multiple times for manga awards for each year of its publication, and had over 7.5 million copies in circulation by September 2025.
