It was started by Redditor SpaceDev1 who was practicing drawing Frieren's face from different angles. He posted one of his completed drawings, a drawing that was supposed to be a shot of Frieren from an upward angle looking towards the sky, on November 12th, 2025, to the Frieren subreddit, which he self-deprecatingly acknowledged as looking weird. In this case, the picture looked weird because SpaceDev drew her chin incorrectly, drawing it pointed and flat at the bottom with the end result of making Frieren look like she has a distorted jawline. This drawing became a popular meme once it was shared with more general art subreddits like animation and painting. Some variations of the meme retain the original comically botched drawing while others retain Frieren's pose but draw her correctly. The meme has been acknowledged by the English dub staff of the anime with Frieren's English voice actor Mallorie Rodak using the original image as her Twitter profile.
